Nature is perfect just as it is. The only thing we'd change is there's not enough of it left. We're asking you to protect and help us restore some of the most amazing, biologically rich lands in this area - forever.
The Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System is a collaborative initiative of ten local government and non-profit organizations in the Burlington-Hamilton area.
Home to over 1,500 species of plants and animals, the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System is a protected, permanent and connected natural lands sanctuary from the Harbour to the Escarpment. It is also home to an important ecological link between Lake Ontario wetlands and the Niagara Escarpment.
The EcoPark System is a network of public lands that have been preserved in perpetuity. Half of the system such as the Royal Botanical Gardens, Dundurn Park, Princess Point and Cootes Paradise are likely already familiar to you. We work with willing landowners to conserve their lands in perpetuity for the benefit of the community. In total 3,900 hectares or 9,600 acres are secured forever.
But this is just the beginning. As private neighbouring lands that would grow the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System become available, we have the opportunity to purchase and protect them, instead of watching them become developed.
This is what we've been waiting for - these properties, in addition to growing the EcoPark, completes a natural corridor between Cootes Paradise and the Niagara Escarpment. Towards the Western end, it is the only place where wildlife can travel between the two without being interrupted by a 400 series highway.
Donate online to help us purchase the next piece of land. Any size gift makes an impact. A $40 donation protects a parking-spot sized lot forever.
